 Here are the FACTS:
The ratio for new marriages to divorces continues to be 2 to 1, even in the church. Does that mean the “other 50%” of couples who stay married never have difficulties, or have never thought about breaking up? Not likely. Divorce is devastating not only to families, but to society. Couples who live together prior to marriage experience greater dissatisfaction after marriage. Children may also be very damaged by their parent’s bad marriage; their school work may suffer, as well as self-esteem, increased anger, depression, and self-blame, conflicts with authority, and their own ability to have a good marriage may be hindered. Not surprisingly, the total of unmarried households is now at an all-time high.
Now, here’s the TRUTH:
God HATES divorce, Malachi 2:16. Actually, God’s word has a lot to say on the subject of marriage. There is a lot of attention spent on programs like “DivorceCare” which is needed, but perhaps more so we recognize the need for programs that will help couples “DivorceProof” their marriages. And at Victory Austin, we are committed to doing all we can to help families make it through the rough times, and celebrate during the good times. We have a variety of activities specifically for married couples to enjoy fun and fellowship with other couples… everything from board games to dodge ball on ice! Not only that, but throughout the year, we have seminars and special events especially for married couples, as well as several small group fellowships who are focused on strengthening and maintaining healthy marriages.
